The house was a respected mental institution until mad Dr Vanacutt (Jeffrey Combs, Re-animator) vivisected, electro-shocked and otherwise tormented his patients until they rebelled, slaughtered the staff and set the place on fire.
Sixty years on it's had what the real-estate agents
in our part of town call a makeover, and amusement park magnate Steven Price (Geoffrey Rush) rents it for a birthday party for his wife Evelyn (Famke Janssen).
To spice up the festivities, he offers a mil to any guest who lasts the night.
Someone gets their claws on the guest list and the folks who turn up are not the ones that Evelyn or Steven expected to be blowing out the candles. They're locked in for the night, too.
