Fans of Galaxy Quest, a TV programme that is not a million light years removed from Star Trek, are gathered at a convention to meet the stars of their favourite show.
Suddenly, a race of aliens, which has intercepted broadcasts
of the programme in space and believes they are "historical documents," arrives and transports the entire TV cast into space on a ship modelled on the show's set.
Seems enemy aliens have attacked their home and they want the galaxy's crime fighters to rescue them.
Fortunately the cast can command and operate the ship the aliens have built for them, since it works just like the one on TV. So it's all aboard for the aliens' planet.
With Tim Allen as a commander boldly going where one man has gone before, and he was called William Shatner, and Sigourney Weaver as a space-age heroine, it's good fun — whether you're a Star Trek cultist or just one of those who wondered what all the fuss was about.
