Review: Ewan McDonald
It is 1958, and smart-but-reserved Eva (Samantha Morton) lives with her father and much younger brothers and sisters in a bleak English country town.
She works at the sawmill and is being courted by Harry Flyte (Lee Ross), an eager-to-please
farm boy.
Eva carries a secret torch for her slightly older second cousin, Joseph Lees (Rupert Graves), who she last saw when she was 14.
Joseph became a geologist, went to Italy and lost a leg in an accident, all of which is hugely dramatic and exciting to the daydreaming Eva.
She drifts into a relationship with Harry though (shock!) she doesn't marry him. A family wedding brings Eva and Joseph back together.
What will she do — follow her dream lover to Italy or return to her everyday life?
