One of our favourite Newmarket delis just got a whole lot better. Zarbo on Morrow St has always been a haven for delicious fresh salads and lunch fare along with a tempting range of deli products and homemade dressings and vinaigrettes essential for the fridge. Now, international baker Dean Brettschneider has taken over the back of the store and started baking his handmade artisan breads and pastries. Dean who is based in Shanghai, is the author of five award-winning books on baking, and has plans to open other bakeries around the world. Get there early in the morning and try an almond croissant or a pistachio creme Danish as they come out of the oven - delicious. Then stock up on his unique breads such as the wholemeal vegetable sesame seed loaf which is crammed with veges, his signature pain au levain sourdough, his fig and aniseed sourdough loaf, or the whole wheat soda loaf which is yeast free.
