Metro's Auckland Restaurant of the Year announced

Upmarket city eatery The Grove has won Auckland's Restaurant of the Year award for the second year running.

The Metro award praised it for providing a memorable experience for many different kinds of diners.

Another big winner is Ponsonby newcomer Cocoro, winning best Asian and the best new titles, and the Progressive Restaurateur of the year for owner Makoto Tokuyama.

They were also a runner up for the Supreme Award and a finalist for best wine list.

The judges say the biggest single trend in this year's awards was the number of very fine new Asian restaurants in Auckland.
