Just as on her debut Kaleidoscope - with hit Caught Out There's "I hate you so much right now " chorus - the second album by Kelis wastes no time in showing that the angry young R'n'B woman knows how to let
off steam.
Again produced by studio crew du jour the Neptunes, Wanderland's first track Young Fresh n' New funk-rocks in exciting ill-tempered fashion, as does the equally bad-mannered Get Even near the end.
As a contrast, it does deliver a line in seductive modern hip-hop soul, at its best on Shooting Stars and Popular Thug. However, during much of the rest, Kelis seems to get lost in her and her producers' eclectic urges.
If she suffered Macy Gray comparisons on her first outing it would seem a parallel pattern is being followed by her own disappointing sophomore effort.
