For far too many years reggae's way into the mainstream after Marley's death was in pallid covers. Neil Diamond's back-catalogue seemed unnaturally plundered for one-drop riddims. Long-running Inner Circle — who were a creditable Rasta-roots outfit 25 years ago but achieved fame with
Bad Boys, the theme to the US reality series Cops — have been largely inoffensive over the past decade or so as they plod through covers.
This album is no different. It opens with the reggaefication of Have You Ever Seen the Rain and Unchained Melody and later they perpetrate something called Hot Girl (Rule My World) which they wrote. They revisit Maria Maria which they co-wrote with Santana and mostly just make barbecue soundtrack good vibes, with some lightweight rap thrown in. Harmless stuff and of marginal interest. A hit probably.
