In 2002 Gavin Bishop illustrated Weaving Earth and Sky, a collection of myths and legends of Aotearoa by poet Robert Sullivan. It went on to win the New Zealand Post Book of the Year Award for 2003.
Now Gavin brings us a new collection of Maori myths which he has bothwritten and illustrated with younger children in mind.
The four myths he has chosen to retell include the two best-known stories about Maui and his struggles, first with the sun, and then with the big fish. The other stories are about Rona's argument with the moon, and Kahu's battle with the taniwha.
