Dave Gunson: Kiwi of the Great Forest

When the earthmoving machines arrive at their little patch of bush in North Auckland, a family of kiwi and their brave morepork friend decide that they must find a new home where they cannot be disturbed by humans. Thus begins their long trek to the Great Forest.

Gunson has written and illustrated an adventure story in comic style with a strong environmental theme that manages to be both funny and informative.

On their way to the Great Forest the kiwi family catch ferries, walk through shopping centres and spend time on a farm. During their perilous expedition they are aided by their bird friends but they must also battle against humans and other predators.

The illustrations are superb and children will enjoy recognising Auckland landmarks. This delightful book should also have huge appeal for reluctant readers.
