And it was not long before Northumbria Police had swooped in to threaten the driver with legal action ahead of his big day.
"We didn't receive our invite for the big day but we'll send @Geordie_aviator a little gift anyway...to the value of £200 and 6 points!"
Just to be sure he got the message, this was quickly followed up with a second, very similar tweet, saying: "@Geordie_aviator please get in touch and we'll send you your wedding present. £200 fine & 6 points."
Other Twitter users had mixed responses to the police's no-nonsense approach.
One wrote: "Brilliant tweet haha! On a serious note people who risk lives like this, should be banned for life driving & be made to pay a fine of £5000 ($9100)."
But another added: "You have no real evidence that he was driving, could have been a photoshopped pic or a scene in a pre recorded movie."
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "Northumbria Police has been made aware of an individual using a mobile phone whilst driving, having been alerted by social media. Enquiries are being made to follow up on the incident."
The @geordie_aviator account has since been deleted.
