Gok Wan mania hits Albany mall (+photos)

Dressed in dark bootleg jeans, a red top and beige cardigan, Chantall Turner told superstar stylist Gok Wan that all she wanted was to "look hot".

Twenty minutes later, the transformed 43-year-old Birkenhead woman was revealed to a crowd of thousands.

She was one of eight women who were given a makeover as part of the celebrity's tour of New Zealand.

Wan, of the British television programme, How to Look Good Naked, yesterday kicked off the first of his three live shows to be held at shopping malls around Auckland.

The crowd, made up of mostly middle-aged women, waited anxiously for him to arrive on stage, cheering through three promotional videos. Screams erupted from the crowd when he appeared.

"Do you realise I'm not One Direction?" Wan said.

Those who didn't like swearing or homosexuality were advised that it would probably be best if they left.

Wan schmoozed and flirted with the crowd, pointing out one man in the audience.

"So you're the reason I'm here. Ding dong," he said, looking over the rims of his thick-framed glasses.

Women almost threw themselves at the stage when Wan asked for volunteers to get a make-over. Some were more shy than others.

Denise Lorrigan, 37, shied away from the outspoken stylist's comments that he wanted to sleep between her breasts and only come up for three meals a day.

Wan was at Westfield Manukau City today at 12.30pm and at Westfield St Lukes tomorrow at 5.30pm.
