Girl loses both legs after doctors mistake meningitis for 'tummy bug'

A 7-year-old girl in England lost both her feet after doctors sent her home with a "tummy bug", according to reports.

Brogan Partridge began vomiting after a day at the beach, with her parents believing she had an infection.

Concerned with her wellbeing, her mother Aimee took her to hospital, where doctors said she had a tummy bug. But within hours of being sent home, Brogan began to develop bruises on her legs.

She was rushed back to A&E, where she was diagnosed with the deadly meningitis infection.

Doctors then found high levels of bacteria in her blood, which eventually caused her so much pain she was forced to have her feet amputated.

"When we got back in, the doctors then confirmed our worst fears.

"We're so lucky that she was saved but we were devastated when Brogan had to have her left foot amputated due to the septicaemia, Aimee Partridge told The Sun.

"We were later told she will need to have her right foot amputated too."

More than four years after the horror diagnosis and amputations, Brogan, now 11, uses prosthetic feet.

Brave Brogan, now aged 11, is working on rebuilding her life and becoming independent once again.

Her mother said: "She was completely oblivious to it all because she was so heavily medicated at the time.

"Her education suffered because of it. But now she's 11, she's adjusted to everything really well.

"She's always had a good mindset and is determined to get her full independence back."
