Gender-fluid Kiwi YouTuber Kris Fox claims abuse in public bathroom

Kiwi YouTuber Kris Fox has claimed to be the target of verbal abuse after using a public bathroom at Lynn Mall in New Lynn, Auckland.

Fox, 23, who identifies as gender-fluid, posted a video about the incident to Snapchat on Friday after using a men's restroom in the Auckland shopping mall.

Fox told the Herald a man who looked to be in his mid-30s confronted him as they left the bathroom and said: "You should be using the disabled toilets."

"I was so angry," says Auckland-born Fox. "I calmed myself down and told him, 'Those toilets are for people with disabilities. What do you think I am?'"

Fox says the man smirked and walked away.

In the Snapchat video, Fox, who is known for using strong language and presenting a sassy demeanour said: "Generally when I use public toilets ... I go into the men's one. Surprise, b****, I've got a penis."

Fox says the incident is the first experienced when using a public bathroom and that it was upsetting.

"It was a first for me to be put in that situation. It's shocking to be made to feel like you don't belong. Who you are shouldn't give people the right to be cruel."

Growing up, Fox was called names but has always felt strongly about standing up to the comments.

Speaking to Snapchat followers, Fox tells them: "You know, if anyone ever makes you feel like you don't belong in a certain situation, in which you do, tell them to f*** right off."
