BATMAN FOREVER
Herald rating: * * *
The third film in the Batman franchise has Val Kilmer donning the cape, and introduced nipples on the Batsuit. He's joined by Chris O'Donnell as youthful ward Dick Grayson, an orphaned acrobat who joins the crusade against crime. Jim Carrey plays the Riddler and Tommy Lee Jones is Two-Face. (1995)

8.30PM, SKY MOVIES 1
ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13
Herald rating: * * * *
A gripping remake of the 1976 John Carpenter film, which was a cross between Rio Bravo and Night of the Living Dead.

Precinct 13 is a police station scheduled for closure, where Sergeant Jake Roenick (Ethan Hawke) ends up after a drug bust goes wrong and his team is killed.

On New Year's Eve a busload of prisoners, including a junkie, a con-man and a cop killer, are jailed at the precinct overnight because of a blizzard.

Soon after, masked men show up in black SUVs, surround the building, and demand the release of one of the prisoners. Outnumbered and outgunned, Roenick enlists the help of the prisoners.

It's not hard to pick holes in the plot, but the action is relentless. The strong supporting cast includes Laurence Fishburne as mobster Marion Bishop, John Leguizamo (ER) and Drea De Matteo (The Sopranos). (2005)

8.30PM, SKY MOVIES 2
FANTASTIC FOUR
Herald rating: * * *
Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm are on a privately funded research mission in space when their bodies are bombarded by cosmic rays, altering their DNA and giving them super-powers. They face off against the hooded Doctor Doom. Panned by critics, this adaptation of the well-known Marvel Comic did okay at the box office. A sequel, entitled Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is in production at present. (2005)

11.30PM, TV3
MALENA
Herald rating: * * * *
Beautifully filmed World War II drama about a Sicilian boy who observes a beautiful outsider named Malena (Monica Bellucci, The Passion of The Christ), who has moved into town to be with her husband Nico. When Nico goes to war, Malena suffers from the ill will of the villagers. (2000)
