3: Game on
Be sure to book in for Motat Game On - Digital Game Workshops, 10am-2pm, September 30 and October 2. Using a specific app, kids can learn how to design and build their very own game. Help will be on hand to guide them to test and tweak the game, then bring it to life. Suitable for ages 8-plus. Cost is $40 per child, plus booking fees. Bring along your own Apple device. Bookings are essential at motat.org.nz or phone 0800 MOTATNZ (0800 668 286).
4: Social butterflies
School holidays at Butterfly Creek mean fresh-air activities, but there's plenty to do under cover as well. Starting tomorrow, activities such as a creative station, mice-racing, face-painting and treasure hunts are free. Standard entrance pricing applies (children from $10, adults from $13).
5: A little kiwi for little Kiwis
Rotorua has so much going for it, with plenty of fun activities for kids to enjoy. Rainbow Springs has just the right mix of adrenalin - check out The Big Splash - and quiet moments. Spending time with the animals is a great way for children to talk with their inside voices. They will need to be quiet around one of Rainbow Springs' little charmers, kiwi chick Mahuia (named after the rapids in Tongariro National Park). Family pass $99 for two adults and three children.
