Michele Corty brings Parisian style to Newmarket
The ever-stylish Michele Corty is the face behind Rue de Seine, a bridal label that has developed a following with women wanting to look modern and stylish on their wedding day. Her Newmarket boutique is a haven of bohemian Parisian-inspired chic, with romantic gowns and custom veils hangingalongside incredible vintage wedding dresses from the early 1900s to the late 1970s. Corty is inspired by the romance of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, where she lived while based in Paris before moving to Auckland and setting up her label last year. That modern take on vintage with hints of bohemian extends to Corty's personal style too. She talks to us about of her favourite things.
MY FAVOURITE THINGS
A piece of jewellery that never leaves my arm is my Hermes leather bracelet. A 30th birthday present, its band flips to beautiful taupe for a summer silhouette. I have never been so in love with a piece of leather.
Designed by the amazing Phoebe Philo for one of her last collections at Chloe, I wore this dress for my civil wedding in Paris and still take it out to admire the beautiful handwork.
Just recently found at Tatty's vintage. This once-floor-length monster of a coat has quickly become a favourite during the Auckland winter months and would be perfect for a frightfully cold fashion week in Moscow.
Filled with wedding photos of celebrities, models, and socialites past and present, Vogue Weddings is a constant reminder of why I love my profession. I keep it in our shop for girls to reference when creating their own fashionable wedding.
Since an early age I have been fascinated by millinery work and wearing hats. I am proud to own a stunning Stephen Jones for Dior vintage and a gold knit turban from Missoni. Both were gifts from dear friends.
