Fashion: Rug up for the winter's chill

’Tis the season to be warm and cosy, so pick soft merino and warm knits.

With Winter just around the corner, it's getting cold. Time to add a little knitwear to your wardrobe.

Local bigwig Max has a comprehensive knitwear collection available this season, with everything from plain merino knits through to fully-fashioned pieces to brighten up your day.

Workshop is not just all about denim, its knitwear collection is full of classic pieces that will stand the test of time and its merino stripe dress is one of these.

Standard Issue has long been one of my favourite local knitwear purveyors, and I'm already eyeing up its Tic Tac Toe sweater to add to my collection. Another local knitwear specialist is Nineteen//46: its work is 100 per cent merino, machine washable and features beautiful craftsmanship.

To add a little sporty spice to your outfit, try Kate Sylvester's Tennis jumper, which is a relaxed-fit cable-knit for a perfect retro-feel piece.

Meanwhile Country Road's current collection features so many fabulous knit pieces it's hard to pick one, so I've selected a head-to-toe knitwear outfit that is perfect as is or can be used to mix and match from.

One of the biggest trends this season is the blanket - and Zambesi have nailed this with their xxxv blanket.

Check The Line Up for my picks of "Seasonal Essentials" - I love Glassons' merino-blend long-sleeve dress, which will be an extremely useful layering piece as the weather changes. From Topshop, I have the longline Waterfall cardigan in one of the season's colours, grey.

If you can only buy one piece this season, make it a roll-neck knit - this option from Seed hits all the right notes.

Finally, I have already added Witchery's olive coatigan to my wardrobe - it has proved one of the most useful pieces so far and will only get better as it chills.
