Sera Lilly took a big crowd on a trip South of the Border. Those expecting to see the Auckland designer's flirty frocks and long gowns had a while to wait.
The show began with an extended film of backstage prepping before a curtain fell to reveal a posse of models in Western hats. They strode the runway in Aztec-inspired woven knits, flokati vests and shrugs and shearling jackets and a long camel coat.
Animal print devore velvet and mustard floral chiffon added to the textural mix in daywear separates. The shades evoked the desert, from russets and sage to blazing coral.
On to the fiesta for some sassy senorita one-shoulder dresses with tiered skirts. Boned bodices and a bold rose floral print reinforced the Latin feel of The Sisters of San Salvador show before we were transported to the ballroom for a finale featuring cream lace and white jersey floor-length dresses with elaborate crystal embellished bodices.
Jerry Hall would have loved the embellished fluid, chiffon-sleeved, 70s-style number.
