Okay, so this is how the entertainment industry works. First, you make a name as an actress, singer, celebrity girlfriend then you shorten that name to something that sounds like a breakfast cereal and make movies with serious social themes.
Slim (Jennifer Lopez) is a waitress at
a diner, where her pal, Ginny (Juliette Lewis), constantly tries pairing her off with customers. Enter rich and chauvinistic Mitch (Bill Campbell) and his friend Robbie (Noah Wyle) with their tired pickup routines.
Within moments Slim and Mitch are married and within a few more moments they're on a beach with their 4-year-old daughter. Strangely, Slim has not found out what Mitch is like; she will within not many more moments when she finds out he's unfaithful, threatens to leave, and he beats her.
Slim takes her daughter on the run but as Mitch becomes increasingly scary, she decides to go after him instead.
Strange that this mess came from director Michael Apted, best known for his famous, compelling and sensitive documentary series 7 Up about children growing up.
DVD features: movie (114min); Jennifer Lopez music video.
