NZ Fashion Week drew to a close last night with a presentation from Salasai that combined fashion show and installation, two key aspects of a relatively subdued three days of shows that have seen many designers become more inventive with how they participate in the event.
Held in a loftspace in Ponsonby, the Salasai show featured 12 models showcasing the streetwear brand's winter 2014 collection.
"I wanted to do something different that gives people a chance to really see the garments, as opposed to the models just walking past for a couple of seconds on a runway," explained designer Kirsha Whitcher, based in Perth but in Auckland for five days selling her collection to buyers.
"It's a trend that is happening overseas, presenting the garments in a more intimate and individual way."
Elsewhere this week, labels such as Pia Boutique have showcased in-season collections, and 10 up-and-coming creatives took part in a stand-out group installation on Wednesday.
