Poor man's Guy Ritchie flick about Jack Manfred (Clive Owen), who wants to be a writer and tells his story as if he's writing it. That story is that Jack's father (Nicholas Ball), a gambler, womaniser, drinker and generally not good role-model living
in South Africa, has got Jack a job as a croupier at a London casino.
Jack, who is good at his job, in fact may have spent too much time on the other side of the tables, has a girlfriend, Marion (Gina McKee), a store detective; an affair with another dealer; and becomes entangled with Jani De Villiers (Alex Kingston), a client from South Africa, who wants to hook him into a scheme to cheat the casino.
