Violet (Piper Perabo) is a working-class girl from Joisey who moves to New York's Chinatown and gets a job in a bar named Coyote Ugly. From Henderson to Fort St, in our terms.
Violet's new career requires her to dance on top of the
bar in a line of other girls, pour drinks, throw ice on customers who get into fights and spray the others with a soda gun. It's probably not the career you'd want for your daughter but, hey, a girl's gotta eat, and have A Dream.
Unlike the other girls, whose ambitions consist of doing Broadway routines on a slippery bar top or pouring booze on the bar and setting it on fire, Violet wants to be a star.
This is difficult because she has stage fright and is afraid to sing in front of an audience. Strange, because she does almost everything else in front of one.
Until she meets Kevin (Adam Garcia), an Australian cook. You may want to know the answers to the obvious questions: Does she find the courage to sing? Do Violet and Kevin get back together after the ritual row? Do her dreams come true? Me, I couldn't care less.
