A couple expecting their first child are being ridiculed on social media after their request for free paleo meals surfaced online.
Philadelphia couple Jim and Alex Burns used crowdsourcing page Meal Train to request high-maintenance, Paleo-friendly, elaborate meals from their friends - and strangers.
The couple, who are expecting their first child on April 29, set up a profile on Meal Train, a website that allows people to make home-cooked meals and deliver them to those in need.
Their listing specified more than 30 recipes they would like to have delivered, for free.
The Burns also posted the same requests to their neighbourhood's social network.
Their list of requested recipes includes elaborate options like "Paleo breakfast egg muffins with thinly sliced cremini mushrooms, pork breakfast sausage and three tablespoons of melted and cooled ghee".
They'd also like someone to cook and deliver, for free, "spiced lentil, sweet potato and kale whole wheat pockets".
They went on to say they didn't want to be "distracted" by anyone delivering the food so the dad-to-be wrote he was going to "put a big white cooler in the side yard".
"As the father-to-be, I'm teetering on a fence of emotions. One of the things I'm most afraid of is not getting a great deal of sleep and as a result not being in the best frame of mind to offer my wife the support she needs to recover from the child-birthing process.
"That's why I'm putting together this 'Meal-Train' or 'Mental-health check-in train' or 'Do you need any help today train'. A meal would be awesome. If you feel comfortable reaching out before you arrive to see if we might need anything else - that'd be even more awesome," the father-to-be wrote.
Under Special Instructions on the page, Burns says the couple would appreciate having friends check in on them and lending a hand with the chores.
A neighbour shared the post on Twitter and the couple have been receiving backlash for their high-maintenance requests.
"So basically, he's not sure he'll get enough sleep to be able to step up and help his wife with the household duties, and he's asking the neighborhood to that s**t FOR him," a Twitter user wrote.
"They're having a baby, not both dying of cancer," someone else replied. "Reality is hopefully going to slap these two in the face one day."
