Coral music on tour in Auckland

Surburban spread Auckland Choral comes up with a venture that complements its enterprising programming. It's Close to Home concert will be done not just once in the central city, but four times in various suburbs - Remuera and Howick this Saturday and Sunday, and Henderson and Takapuna in a week's time.

Aficionados of the English Choral Tradition should relish the chance to hear John Rutter's new Mass of the Children and lovers of English artsong won't want to miss baritone Martin Elliott singing Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs.

On Sunday, Bach Musica perform Mozart, Bach and Purcell along with some a cappella offerings, at Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Mozart's Flute and Harp Concerto pairs the eminently stylish duo of Uwe Grodd and Yi Jin while Bach's Actus Tragicus, also known as Gottes Zeit ist die Allerbeste Zeit, is one of the composer's most heartfelt cantatas. Auckland composer David Hamilton features among the a cappella fare and Purcell's Abdelazer Suite includes the original theme that sparked off Britten's Young Persons' Guide to the Orchestra.William Dart
