The latest brain teasers sweeping the web are a series of fiendishly tricky riddles.

Some of the conundrums from Playbuzz might be familiar, while others will take a little longer to work out.

Internet users are asked to think about the riddle posed before scrolling to reveal the solution.

The quiz starts with a few relatively simple questions but quickly moves onto the more challenging mind-bogglers.

One riddle asks: "I can only live where there is light, but I die if light shines on me. What am I?"

Another question asks the quizzer to work out a particular object. It says: "Every night I'm told what to do, and each morning I do what I'm told. But I still don't escape your scold."

One riddle says: "What comes once in a minute, twice in a moment, but never in a thousand years?"

Another asks: "Which word in the dictionary is spelled incorrectly?"

The puzzle, posted online, has been liked and shared many times with one commenter writing: "Wow! So poetic!"

But it is just the latest puzzle to baffle the web; earlier this week, the internet was left perplexed after being challenged to spot the letter b among the d's in an increasingly difficult series of levels.

With the lowercase letters looking almost identical to each other, the b is deceptively tricky to spot - and the makers at Playbuzz claim you have to be not only extremely patient but have a high IQ in order to succeed.

Quiz players were also stumped by a festive brainteaser in the form of a fiendish elf hiding in a snow-capped evergreen forest.

There are a number of confusing elements to the puzzle, like a golden mountain trail that draws your eye away from Santa's little helper, and the tree tops which are the exact same colour as his hat.
