We came here because for some time we'd been meaning to visit the historic Pah Homestead in Monte Cecilia Park, which houses the cafe and the Wallace Arts Centre.
Parking was not a problem - there's a dedicated carpark.
We walked in and immediately thought the homestead has been beautifullyrestored and really is one of Auckland's gems. The busy, buzzing little cafe is home to some of the fantastic artworks owned by the Wallace Arts Trust and there is a tempting selection of cakes and other counter food as well as a small, rather egg-heavy, menu.
The most unusual thing on the menu was the diamond jubilee coronation chicken pot pie ($16.50).
We ordered eggs benedict with a large serving of hot smoked salmon ($19.50), and my friend (who doesn't eat eggs) opted for a mixture of sides ($14). She was particularly pleased with the bacon.
The coffee was hot and creamy.
The service was professional, quick and polite.
We recommend if you come here sit outside on the verandah if it's a nice day so you can enjoy the garden sculptures and views of the lovely and expansive grounds.
Overall we thought a visit to this cafe isn't just about a meal out. Before or after eating you can view the art in the homestead's galleries and hit the park for some gentle exercise. We're already planning a return trip for the Devonshire tea.
