High above, an owl bumped his head against a branch, nearly dropped the hessian sack that he was carrying over his back, and whimpered: 'This weather! This night! Please end. end.'
With a hoot of determination, he straightened the sack and set off again. Tangles
of branches and tree trunks made travel lower down in the forest impossible for an overburdened owl. He halted on a branch and froze, listening.
'Wolves. So now it's wolves,' he muttered. His beak remained half open in horror.growling blended with thunder to make it seem as if the whole world had grown teeth. Yellow eyes glared up. Once again the owl nearly dropped the sack.
But instead he grasped it more firmly and set off, like the woman, ever deeper into the forest.
