Man's best friend is a regular sight at beachfront cafes, but two of Auckland's most popular waterside eateries will have an influx of four-legged patrons over the next few weekends.
Takapuna Beachfront Cafe and Kohi Beach Cafe are offering a special menu for dogs to promote healthy canine diets.
Today, three special pooches, terrier Tommy, border collie Boy and rhodesian ridgeback Shayla, had the opportunity to be first in and first served the special doggy snacks at Takapuna Beach Cafe.
Called Bone Appetit, the menu is a partnership between K9 Natural and the Hipgroup.
The free menu will be offered all day Saturday and Sunday.
K9 Natural CEO, Neil Hinton says that while the doggy menu is a bit of fun, he hopes it will get dog owners thinking about the type and quality of food they feed their pets.
"We are all making better nutrition choices for ourselves, but our dogs are still getting highly processed, carb-laden foods, that are adding to a lot of the common health issues they have.
"Bone Appetit is all about getting dog owners to consider what they feed their dogs and show them that a healthy alternative is available."
Bone Appetit starts on July 30 and runs all day Saturday and Sunday until August 21.
