First drinks: Andiamo has Stella on tap, and even if it's not always our first choice from a beer list, they pour it so very well that it easily becomes the drink du jour. They have an extensive wine list and their bar tenders are a whizz at cocktails.
Thevibe is: More relaxed than you might expect. They have white linen tablecloths and smartly dressed wait staff, but they don't mind at all if you rock up in your jandals or beach shorts. They are open all day, every day. It's lovely to sit outside on the footpath and enjoy the sunshine and the sea breeze wafting up from Herne Bay, and on a winter's eve they know how to make it cosy indoors.
It smells of: Pleasantly, very little. Maybe what your neighbours are eating (a range of Italian-inspired fare), or a citrusy tang from a gin and tonic.
On the stereo: It was a nice surprise to find that the outside speakers have been removed, and so really it's all about conversation, accompanied by low-level jazz from inside. Their music selection is probably their biggest weakness but at least it doesn't intrude.
Room for improvement: Andiamo has been a fixture on Jervois Rd for decades, and is a delightfully reliable local, but it is a touch old-fashioned. We mostly like it that way, but they could look to mix up their cocktail menu - and the aforementioned soundtrack.
The perfect spot for: Running into anyone you know who lives in the area - if you sit on the footpath, you're bound to see them walk by.
Most redeeming feature: The wait staff are always very friendly, full of smiles, and more than happy to serve, whether you're after one quick drink, or staying all evening.
