Whether it's a minor annoyance like someone stealing your food to a major betrayal such as cheating, sometimes revenge is the only way forward.

But it's no good unless the object of your wrath is fully aware that you've done something to make them pay for their misdeeds.

If you can't face it in person, sometimes a note is the best way forward and it's no surprise that these often hilarious missives end up being shared online.

Hilarious revenge notes are being shared online, including this one from someone who got their own back on a pizza thief at work. Photo / Twitter

Stolen food seems to provoke a particular rage in people such as the irate worker whose colleague had tucked into their pizza.

After exacting their revenge, they left a note for the thief to let them know they had been caught.

"To the person who ate two slices of my pizza last night/today," they wrote. "I licked all of the slices before putting it in the fridge, as I thought someone might do this."

As a parting shot they added: "P.S. I have mouth herpes."

And another worker prone to helping themselves to supplies from the fridge was in for a surprise after pilfering a colleague's coffee creamer.

She stuck a note on the bottle, saying: "Surprise. You've been drinking my breast milk. Hope you enjoyed. Cheers! P.S. It's organic, so no worries."

An office intern found an ingenious way to get their own back by leaving their message written at the end of a block of sticky notes, so it wouldn't be found until they were long gone.

"I hope you enjoyed bossing me around,' it read. 'I bet you felt real good about yourself.

"Well I wonder how you feel now, knowing I spat in your coffee every day?"

Heartbreaking last words of loved ones

19 Oct 05:16 AM

Naturally cheating spouses have found themselves on the receiving end of a well crafted missive of revenge, with one woman going all out with an announcement in a local paper.

"I would like to say congratulations to Shara Cormier and Patrick Brown" she wrote. "They are expecting a baby.

"Hope you both are really in love and I hope it works out. Always, Patrick's wife Timeshia Brown."

Another vented her rage on a handwritten sign featuring her husband's phone number.

"Wanna date a cheating husband that had sex with a 17-year-old and a hooker on Craigslist, gave me an STD and left me pregnant?" she wrote. "Call John. She did, but I wouldn't."

Meanwhile, a cuckolded boyfriend packed all his partner's clothes and dumped them outside the house with a helpful sign for passers-by.

"Just found out my girlfriend has been cheating on me while I'm at work so have kicked her out of the house," he said.

"These are her clothes. She's a size eight to 10. Girls (or guys if you're that way inclined) help yourselves."

Of course, nightmare neighbours are often on the receiving end up some well thought out payback, such as an amorous couple who were making far too much noise in the bedroom.

"To the people who kept me up all night having sex," their neighbour wrote. "Shut your windows next time. You are now on the internet for all to hear."

And another couple who didn't clean up after their dog also felt the wrath of a neighbour, who took it on themselves to leave them some bags and an accompanying note.

"I assumed you're all out because why else wouldn't you clean up after your dog?" the wrote. "Oh! I also helped out by dropping all the said poop conveniently in front of your door for easier clean up. You're welcome."
