The building recycling site will be demolished with the building programme expected to start in January and completed in May-June.
Harbour City Funeral Home company director Simon Manning said while neighbours consent wasn't required, the funeral home had consulted with them "who also agree that the funeral home will be a vast improvement on the rather tired building that currently is on the site".
He said the new funeral home was an extension of their business they operate in Wellington and the Hutt Valley.
Mr Manning, who lives locally, said he had been looking for a suitable site for a funeral home in Kapiti for some time.
"There are many families we have served in Hutt Valley and Wellington who have moved to the Kapiti Coast and therefore we want to be in a position to continue serving them by offering facilities in the Kapiti district.
"It is our company's belief that the new funeral home will provide more choice for families in the Kapiti district when it comes to funeral service."
