Construction of seven freehold hotel-style townhouses in Raumati Beach is expected to be underway within weeks.
The luxury living townhouses over two levels, at 2 Matatua Rd, next to the Raumati Sands Resort, are designed by Gil-plans Architecture and will built by Mulholland Construction.
Each home will have twobedrooms, two bathrooms, walk-in wardrobe, laundry, open-plan living, decks and covered parking.
Consent applications are with Kapiti Coast District Council and construction is due to start in November, with completion expected around the end of April next year.
"There are no other new townhouses going up in the immediate area so we expect them to be in high demand," said Dean Anderson of Colliers International's Kapiti office who is marketing the townhouses with Richard Dow of Leaders Real Estate.
Interest in the townhouses [pricetags will be available after some initial marketing] was expected from a range of buyers from professionals through to retirees especially because of the location's closeness to the beach, shopping village, temperate climate, transport links such as the expressway and airport, as well as easy reach of Wellington.
LAST DAYS: This building will make way for a seven strong townhouse development at Raumati Beach.
Mr Dow said Kapiti had been an extremely popular residential area for some years now with strong migration trends.
"We're finding there are simply not enough homes being constructed or placed on the market to satisfy the high demand.
"The fact these homes are so close to the beach will be a key benefit for buyers looking for the best of the Kapiti lifestyle."
According to StatsNZ, up to 15,000 more people could be living in the Kapiti district in 2031 than there were in 2011.
Reflecting this growth, rental levels and prices were increasing, Mr Dow said.
"Properties in the greater Paraparaumu area were selling within days of being listed in some cases, with average prices around $50,000 higher than at the beginning of 2016."
