Horowhenua College student Sophie-Leigh Bloxham could be adding more certificates and medals to her wall as the young cyclist heads to the Oceania Championships in Melbourne next month.
A young Horowhenua cyclist has been selected for the prestigious Oceania Championships in Melbourne next month.
Horowhenua College student Sophie-Leigh Bloxham, 16, is heading to the games to compete in five different sprint events after being picked for the New Zealand team.
Bloxham said she had been training with a
high performance cycling team that included World Championship and Olympic cyclists Eddie Dawkins, Ethan Mitchell and Sam Webster in an inspirational group environment under head coach John Andrews.
Bloxham competed recently in the under-17 category at the Age Group Track Nationals, ranking fourth in the 500m time trial and racing at speeds of more than 47km/h. She was picked for the Oceania Championships soon after.
"I'm really excited because I've been waiting for this opportunity since I started competing," she said.
