Shannon Rugby Club's Premier team in their halftime huddle with coach Nathan Beuck.
Under mild conditions on Saturday, May 22, Shannon beat their old rivals Foxton in the first game of the second round of the Ramsbotham Cup Premier Competition.
The win was a great way to celebrate Shannon's "old timers day", which started off with two of the junior rugby teams playingtheir games, under the support and guidance of the club's senior players.
Premier coach Nathan Beuck also received his club blazer to recognise his first season with Shannon. Beuck previously coached for the Levin-based Athletic club.
At times possession for both teams was like a lolly scramble, and came down to who wanted the ball the most. Shannon finally gained control and opened the ledger on the scoreboard courtesy of their centre Alec Smith-McDermott.
Although Foxton made a good effort to hold their ground, Shannon broke through again to score. Foxton fought back before the break with a try to their flanker Jordan Dare, and the game went into halftime with Shannon leading 22-10.
"With the wind behind us now play it down in the eastern corners at that end of the field and hopefully we'll get the win," Beuck said.
Shannon dictated the play after halftime, running the game wide using their three quarters. Although Foxton fought back before the final whistle to score their second try it was too late, with Shannon winning easily 36-15.
Foxton centre Connor Paki scraggs Shannon's left winger Mikaere Halls over the deadball area.
Foxton will be hosting Levin College Old Boys at Easton Park and Shannon will play away against Paraparaumu at the Paraparaumu Domain this coming Saturday, May 29.
