RJ's Licorice was buzzing last week as the popular Levin-based business celebrated National Licorice Day in style.
There were lines of people out of the factory's shop door as locals queued to get their hands on amazing licorice specials, while inside a lucky competition winner got to spend the daybehind the scenes in the factory, tasting, learning and creating custom licorice treats.
Anna Scott, of Auckland, was the winner of the competition, which ran nationally on the company's website and social media.
As well as the VIP day on site at RJ's, Ms Scott also won a year's supply of licorice, and was able to create her own bespoke licorice to be boxed up and sent to nominated family and friends.

Ms Scott said she had taken a day off from her busy life as a mum and was flown down from Auckland for the day by RJ's.
"I'm pretty excited," she said.
"I never win anything, and this is also the day after my birthday, so it's pretty special. "I love licorice and this is such a unique prize."
The tour involved the entire process of licorice production, from flavour essence to packaged product.
