High tea planned to raise money for Levin Waiopehu Lioness charity

Levin Lioness Wendy Williams will be among 80 ladies drinking tea from fine china at a High Tea fundraiser next month.

Levin women will have an opportunity to drink a proper cup of tea from a proper tea cup next month.

The Levin Waiopehu Lioness Club is holding their annual High Tea fundraiser, where they pamper ticket holders with an afternoon of conversation, music, wine, nibbles, and of course, fine tea.

That means breaking out the fine china and silver spoons, as many a tea connoisseur will tell you, tea tastes better from a china cup.

Lioness Wendy Williams had accumulated a large collection of china over many years, some of which she inherited from her late mother. It was safely stored under a bed in the spare room.

"It's nice to get it out for a special afternoon," she said.

The expensive bone china would be carefully transported in boxes to the High Tea and then taken home for washing.

"We definitely won't be putting them through the dishwasher," she said.

The money raised was then donated to various causes and community groups, which last year included a donation to the teen parenting unit at Waiopehu College.

Mrs Williams said the Lioness club currently had 16 members who would be waiting tables for ticket holders with cake, slices and savouries.

"It's an afternoon of pleasure," she said.

Live music for the afternoon would include a piano performance from local man Clive Williams, and there were major spot prizes up for grabs.

There were 80 spaces available for the High Tea, held at Sommerset Leisure Centre on May 5, and the $25 tickets were on sale now.
