Travel from Foxton to Levin will be affected next week as road crews work on the Whirokino bridge on SH1. Motorists must travel to Levin via Shannon.
A section of the southbound lane on State Highway 1 between Levin and Foxton will be closed next week for maintenance.
Between Monday, October, 30, and Friday, November 3, crews will carry out essential maintenance work and flexible median barrier repair at Manawatū Bridge (Whirokino).
A signposted detour will bein place for southbound traffic between 9am and 3pm each day. Northbound traffic will remain on the highway, with a reduced speed limit in place.
Southbound traffic will be detoured down Union St, on to Foxton Shannon Rd, to SH57 and through Shannon, then on to Queen St East and into Levin.

Waka Kotahi is also planning night-time maintenance works on SH1 in and around Levin. We will continue to update road users as the timeframe for the works gets closer.
Please be prepared to see crews out and about on our state highway network with a range of rebuilding and resurfacing programmes planned throughout spring and summer.
SH1 – Queen St: Crews will be working on maintenance of the underlying road structure on a section of Queen St, in Levin from November 8-21. These are night works, with crews working 6pm to 6am. A full road closure will be in place for a section of SH1. Northbound traffic will detour down Bath St/Salisbury St to Exeter St back to SH1. Southbound traffic will detour down Tyne St/Cambridge St to Liverpool Rail Crossing and then back to SH1.
SH1 – Oxford St: Crews will be working on maintenance of the underlying road structure from November 22 to Decembee 5. Crews will work at night 6pm to 6am. A one-way closure will be in place for southbound traffic, with a detour via Bath St/Cambridge St to Liverpool Rail Crossing. The road will remain open for northbound traffic.
SH1 – Hokio Beach Rd: Night-time asphalting works are planned from December 6-11, 6pm-6am. Stop/go will be in place on SH1 with delays likely. A temporary closure of Hokio Beach Rd will be in place.
