Horowhenua mayor Bernie Wanden has broadcast a message live from his "bubble" at home urging people to stay in contact with their loved ones.
In his message Mayor Wanden said it was important the whole district looked after each other, and wanted to circulate a new free phone number- 0800-726-678 - that had been set up by the regional Civil Defence team.
He also reinforced how important it is that everyone strictly adhered to the lockdown rules.
"Here we are in lockdown, a lockdown that is unprecedented in our history and something we never, ever contemplated doing," he said.
"It is a difficult time for us all and there will be many unfortunately in our community that may be struggling to cope with what is going on at the moment.
"The welfare of our community at this time is our biggest concern and not only do we all need to stay in contact with family, friends and neighbours, but we also need to reassure them that there are agencies out there that can help them if they need it.
"If they do need support our regional Civil Defence and emergency management team now have a dedicated phone line for those that need to access household goods and services such as food, water, clothing and bedding.
"The free-phone number is 0800-725-678 and is available seven days a week from 7am to 7pm."
This won't replace other support services operated, but it certainly can provide the important first point of call, he said.
"I also just want to acknowledge and thank the vast majority of our community who have followed the message to stay at home and keep inside their bubble.
"It is vital that we keep doing that and only go out for essential services and of course for much needed exercise, with a walk or bike ride around our neighbourhood. But if you do go out, please follow the rules.
"I also want to give a big shout out and thank you to all those working during the lockdown - our supermarket workers and many others from all sorts of different sectors who are having to work through these trying times.
"These people deserve a huge amount of credit for their efforts so if you get the chance, do thank them.
"And please no wet wipes down the loo.
"If we keep doing what we are doing and doing what we are told then we are much more likely to get out of this situation and with less people affected than what might have been.
