An armed man on the loose sparked a mass police call-out in Ōtaki this week.
Police began receiving calls from people reporting they had heard gunshots at a Titoki Street address shortly after 1pm.
There were further reports of gunshots fired at Rangiuru Road from people phoning police with their concerns.
The calls sparked a large call out from Police from the Horowhenua area with multiple units from the Levin Station also attending.
Several units and armed police gathered outside an address in Atkinson Avenue in Ōtaki.
Levin Senior Sergeant Sam Gilpin said a 35-year-old male was arrested after a short search and was taken into custody, and they were also keen to speak to two other men in relation to the incident.
No-one was injured and Police wanted to reassure the public that there is no longer any risk to public safety, he said.
Gilpin said there would be a CIB investigation and was asking witnesses with any information to come forward.
"Any help or information from the public would be appreciated," he said.
