A popular twilight cricket compeition has a new champion with Pehu Poodles winning the trophy for the first time in a tense final at Weraroa Domain last week.
Pishh batted first and set a good target which meant Poodles were chasing 156 to win off the alloted 21 overs and reached the target with just five balls to spare.
Both teams were excellent in the field and extremely competitive - the run rate Poodles were chasing down got to 8.5 per over at one part of the match.
The seven-aside competition, which had been running since the early 1980s, again attracted good numbers with 12 teams entered this year.
The competition format proved popular with businesses and teams that were unable to commit to Saturday cricket, or were playing for social interaction.
Each player bowled three overs, making each match 21 overs, while batsmen were required to retire and the end of the over after reaching 50 runs.
