Horowhenua's Embroiderers Guild is exhibiting its latest masterpiece in Te Takeretanga o Kura-hau-pō.
It is a group work involving 20 of its members, each of whom produce a butterfly.
The finished work shows a group of butterflies in full flight. It is a 3D work.
Members used their preferred techniques, such as hardanger, cross stitch, and canvas work as well as modern machine embroidery.
The artwork was inspired by member Sheila Ris, who curated the piece, transforming the butterflies by stiffening. It was entered into the New Zealand Embroiderers Guilds' 2018 competition, held during a conference in July in Nelson.
In 2016 the Horowhenua embroiderers won the People's Choice Award for their herbaceous border.
