A race-goer who is of a "golden age" took out the fashion crown at Auckland Cup Day's Style Stakes competition yesterday.
Josie Fairgray, of Auckland, won first prize with her classic two-piece suit by New Zealand designer Adrienne Winkelmann, accompanied with a straw hat; the later purchased on a trip to Italy.
Fairgray didn't want to reveal how old she was, simply describing herself as being of "golden age".
She said she had competed in various Fashion in the Fields competitions "many, many moons ago" — but told the Herald on Sunday she hadn't done so, for some time.
"I don't like doing competitions and I don't usually like getting my photograph taken — but I really enjoyed that," she said.
Fairgray collected a $1000 Specsavers voucher, a $300 Regal Drycleaners voucher and champagne for her first placing in the competition. Silver Ferns star Maria Folau judged the competition, along with ARC ambassadors Hannah Marinkovich and Carena West.
