Microsoft confirmed it is releasing a new console later this year at its highly anticipated E3 press conference.
Along with a swag of exclusive game titles, Xbox announced its high performance rig Xbox One X console would launch in New Zealand on November 7 for $749.
"Xbox empowers game developerslarge and small to create different types of games for every type of player," said Xbox head Phil Spencer.
"Not only do we have the biggest cross-platform blockbusters on our platform, we've also scoured the world to bring our fans unique content from creative artists that capture the imagination."
Scorpio is a full-on upgrade, with better support for native 4K gaming and VR headsets, and is in direct competition with Playstation's recent release, the Playstation Pro.
It promises "six teraflops of processing power and 12GB GDDR5 graphic memory" and claimed it to be "40 per cent more powerful than any other console".
