Lamar (30) recently became the first rapper to win the prestigious Pulitzer Prize.
The announcement he is playing Dunedin adds to an ever-increasing list of big ticket artists who have added the city on their tours in recent month, including Robbie Williams, Pink and Stevie Nicks and The Pretenders. It also follows the very successful three-show Ed Sheeran weekend over Easter.
Lamar's most recent album DAMN. was a critical and commercial success topping the charts in the United States and Canada while reaching number two in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. The album peaked at number three on the New Zealand album charts.
DAMN. was nominated for album of the year and won best rap album of the year at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
Lamar along with Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony Tiffith, produced and curated the film soundtrack for the Marvel Studios superhero box office smash hit Black Panther.
Lamar is only doing two shows, one in Dunedin and one in Auckland, as a part of his DAMN Tour.
