What is Yeethoven? A Kanye and Beethoven mash-up of course

A 70-piece LA-based orchestra will perform a mash-up of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven and Kanye West to create, Yeethoven.

The Debut Orchestra, made up of musicians aged between 15 and 25, will pair six works by the classical composer and six works from Kanye's Yeezus album.

The program is hosted by the Young Musicians Foundation (YMF), an organisation that aims to encourage young passion and creativity through classical music.

The mash-up will showcase the similarities between the otherwise diverse artists and compare modern day music with some of history's classic compositions.

"Obviously, they work within very different traditions," a voice-over says in the YMF promotional clip.

"Their willingness to ruthlessly upend tradition and their influence on the larger culture can't be overstated."

The program is co-curated by arranger Stephen Feigenbaum and conductor Yuga Cohler, known for incorporating technology, pop culture and creative media into the concert experience.

"He (Kanye) is unquestionably one of the most influential figures in popular music and culture," the Young Musicians Foundation page stated.

"There is no better comparison to him than Beethoven, the apotheosis of the classical tradition."

It isn't the first time Kanye's hits have been covered in a classical rendition, after Canadian instrumental group BadBadNotGood recorded their spin on the hip-hop artist's track Flashing Lights for their album BBNG2 in 2012.

The Yeethoven concert will feature the Egmont Overture and be held for free at the Aratani Theatre in Los Angeles on April 16.
