Michael J. Fox has reached out to Taylor Swift after wisecracking that he'd prefer it if the singer kept his son off her dating radar.

To recap: At last week's Golden Globe Awards, co-host Tina Fey took a playful swipe at Swift, telling her to "stay away" from the Spin City star's 23-year-old son, Sam, who was serving as Mr. Golden Globe at the bash.

Watch a clip of Fey making the quip below:

New York Magazine's Vulture later caught up with the 51-year-old actor at a book party, and asked him what he thought of the idea of Swift dating Sam.

"No. No...just back off," he said. "I don't keep up with it all. But Taylor Swift writes songs about everybody she goes out with, right?"

"Right," replied Vulture.

Chimed Fox: "What a way to build a career."

Swift recently split from One Direction's Harry Styles, so she's single and ready to mingle.

Asked if Swift, 22, were to ever to show up at a Fox family dinner on Sam's arm, Fox admitted that he wouldn't know her from a bar of soap: "I wouldn't even know who she was."

But he said the penny would eventually drop when the pair split, and Swift's inevitable breakup song hit the airwaves.

Harry Styles 'really upset'

"Yeah, exactly," Fox said, quipping that the song would be titled Sam, You Piece of Sh*t," while imagining his reaction: "Oh... that was the girl you brought home!"

It appears that Fox might have felt bad about his comments, and has since contacted the Red singer.

"Hey everybody, Michael J. Fox got in touch with me today and we are good," Swift tweeted to her 23 million-plus followers on Friday. "Thank you for having my back".

Fox's son Sam later retweeted the singer's tweet, while adding a cheeky message of his own: "Hope he gave her my #."

Swift - whose ex-boyfriends include Jake Gyllenhaal, Taylor Lautner, John Mayer, Joe Jonas and Conor Kennedy - famously has a penchant for penning songs about her former flames.

In a 2010 interview with Us Weekly, she said: "I've always lived by the theory that if a guy doesn't want me to write a bad song about him, he won't do bad things," she explained.

"And he shouldn't, you know?"

The chart-topper also told The New York Times Magazine recently that she once told a boyfriend she wouldn't write a song about him - but went ahead and did it anyway.

Asked by the mag if her boyfriends ever say "Look, whatever happens, just don't write about me," Swift replied, "The only time that has ever crossed someone's mind was when we were in the process of breaking up."

She added: "Of course I was like, 'Oh, don't worry, I won't'. And then I did.

"Look, it's not like it was written somewhere in the fine print that I write songs about my life. If we break up, I'm going to write about it. But I'm probably also going to write about when I fell in love with you. So there's an upside."

Swift, who is preparing to launch her Red tour, recently let it be known that she is working on new music.

"Back in the studio," Swift tweeted on January 13, followed by a nudge nudge, wink wink reference to her rep for writing autobiographical love songs: "Uh oh...".

It's also been claimed that Swift has supposedly already written five songs about Styles.

"Taylor writes music in the same way that other women chat to their friends on the phone," a 'source' dished to British tabloid The Sun earlier this month.

"It's been how she deals with her emotions for most of her life.

"Harry and Taylor only dated for a short time but there were very strong feelings, so it's been a tough comedown."

The source added: "Lyrics have been written, but Taylor hasn't come close to deciding whether she'll ever release them. A song about it will surface at some point but it won't be anything like the way she had a dig at her other ex John Mayer in one of her other tracks."

Swift and Styles pulled the plug on their relationship earlier this month after a two-month whirlwind romance.
