A vegan Come Dine With Me NZ contestant was brought to tears after guests discussed "slaughtering" chickens in front of her.
The incident happened during last night's episode of the TV3 reality show, in which five strangers take turns hosting each other for dinner. The winner receives $2000.
Ally DeLaine,a vegan bodybuilder, served up meals of vegan tacos and burritos to her guests, but faced complaints that the meal didn't include any meat.
When she told guests she kept chickens as pets - but as a vegan doesn't eat them, or their eggs, two diners discussed "slaughtering" chickens.
"My chickens run free in the yard. It would be appreciated if we didn't discuss chickens at the dinner table for eating them," DeLaine requested.
Host Guy Williams called it: "The tensest episode ever."
Feedback on social media varied between those that thought Come Dine With Me wasn't a suitable show for a vegan to appear on, to those who supported DeLaine's views on veganism.
The vegan only entered Come Dine With Me so she could tell everyone she's vegan. Get off my lawn.
