Kent police confirmed an investigation into the self-dubbed “Brassfather” is under way, with the Sun reporting the arrest concerned assault and criminal damage.
Comments on the r/dannyboy83838383 Reddit have speculated that the charges may relate to a recent incident involving the mother of his child.
Originally from Cranbrook, Kent, the 42-year-old attained a following by sharing his wild adventures abroad and at home, attracting a legion of more than 100,000 “peeps” who loyally tune in to his near-daily videos.
He is one of several creators popularising British “sesh” culture, described by Vice as “a pneumatic-jawed Cockney sex maniac”.
Like his peers Ibiza Final Boss and “Big” John Fisher, the internet sensation is credited with spearheading the “British Chaos” content phenomenon.
Culture podcast host Jake Farrell explained the public’s fascination with Harper as stemming from the freneticism of his content.
“With Dannyboy83, one minute he’s in Thailand on a moped, the next he’s back in a pub in London, drinking. It’s like sitcom plots on overdrive. Literally anything could happen.”
Farrell said this was a far cry from “glossy” American content creators.
“They don’t stay up till 6 in the morning. There would never be a Dannyboy83 in America; he’d just be arrested right away.”
But now Harper’s invulnerability seems to have worn out – despite his much-repeated catchphrase of “be safe, be lucky”.
In the midst of his new legal troubles, fans have become increasingly concerned about Harper’s well-being after weeks of progressively tumultuous posts.
This month his videos in Brazil became erratic, documenting a series of hotel drug binges and a love affair with a local woman.
Before that, in England, he claimed in an October 4 post that he had been stabbed, telling fans, “I just got merc’d in the neck peeps, like I’m not even lying”.
