TVNZ's new Kiwi comedy show Fresh Eggs has been put on hold following the Christchurch terror attacks last Friday.
Lead actress Claire Chitham took to social media to share her condolences and explain TVNZ's decision to take the show off-air.
"In light of our country's current state @tvnz.official is very rightly delaying the next episode of our show #FreshEggs until a further date. Our show is a comedy that looks at the darker side of life in a small NZ town and it involves guns and violence."
A TVNZ spokesperson confirmed the move, saying: "We're delaying Fresh Eggs as the programme contains gun use and violence. We love the show, but we know some of our viewers are struggling with this kind of content at the moment and we want to be sensitive to their needs. We'll be letting viewers know when they can expect new episodes soon."
Fresh Eggs debuted last month and was widely praised for its quirky, dark humour. The six-part series was due to conclude next week.
Chitham went on to say in her social media post that she hopes "our gun laws will change."
"Watching our people - especially our students and children- react with so much love and compassion this weekend keeps making my heart swell and then break over and over again. For anyone who needs help managing their grief or reactions please reach out and TALK."
