She said "sweet words and support" from Kiwi fans were keeping her "warm in this lonely hotel room".
In an interview with TimeOut, Lo said she was looking forward to performing some of the biggest shows of her career here.
"I'm really excited about performing on a big stage. I don't have choreography or anything, but I do move a lot and get a bit spastic on stage, which is fun. (There's) a lot of energy. It's going to be overwhelming, I think."
While she released her debut album Queen of the Clouds in September, her ultra-personal song Habits (Stay High) featured on the EP Truth Serum released in March that was about a break-up with her boyfriend.
She said the song had helped mend bridges with her ex after a particularly bad break-up.
"Habit is about one part of the story, the after part, but it's all about the same relationship. He has heard it, he thinks it's really cool. I wasn't sure but I talked to him the other day and he's kind of amazed that our story became a whole album.
"We are (friends) now yeah. It took a while."
Friday night's Katy Pery show is sold out, but limited tickets remain for Saturday.
* An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported Tove Lo had pulled out of her two New Zealand appearances.
